Spider-Man's Opening Weekend Is Now the Biggest Any Foreign Film Has Had in India

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has closed its opening weekend at 180.20 crore net in India, on a gross of 215.47 crore. The shape of the run is what makes it remarkable: 60.60 crore on day one, a normal 19 percent dip to 49.35 crore on day two, then a 42 percent jump to 70.25 crore on day three. Openings this large almost always fall on their second day; this one grew.
The English-language occupancy tells the same story. Saturday ran at 69.67 percent overall, peaking at 76.67 percent in night shows, a number more typical of a festival release than a fourth franchise instalment eleven days after its predecessor's competitor left screens. Trade reports have placed the film's three-day pace ahead of Avengers: Endgame's opening weekend in India, a comparison that would have seemed unlikely for a solo Spider-Man title even a month ago.
The runway ahead is now largely clear. The Odyssey has been reduced to a fraction of its earlier show count, and Jana Nayagan and Dhamaal 4 are both well past their peaks. Barring a surprise, this is Spider-Man's board to run for the next fortnight.
