Spider-Man's Opening Weekend Is Now the Second-Biggest in Global Box Office History

Spider-Man: Brand New Day closed its first Sunday in India at 76 crore net, an 8.2 percent rise on Saturday's already-large 70.25 crore, taking the four-day India total to 256.20 crore net on a gross of 306.37 crore. A film growing on its fourth day, rather than settling into decline, is not the normal shape of an opening weekend anywhere in the world.

The global number is the real headline. Sacnilk estimates put the worldwide opening at approximately 927 million dollars, roughly 8,850 crore, the second-biggest global opening weekend in box office history behind only Avengers: Endgame. North America contributed 355 million dollars and overseas markets added 573 million, with China emerging as one of the standout international territories.

In India specifically, the film is already being measured against Avengers: Endgame's full first week, not just its opening weekend, an unusual comparison for a solo Spider-Man title. With The Odyssey now reduced to a few hundred shows a day and Jana Nayagan and Dhamaal 4 both well past their own peaks, Spider-Man has the board largely to itself heading into its first full week.
