The Odyssey Passes Deadpool & Wolverine's India Total, With Three Markets Still to Open

The Odyssey has reached 140.01 crore net in India across sixteen days, on a gross of 167.06 crore, moving past Deadpool & Wolverine's lifetime India total to become Christopher Nolan's biggest domestic run in the country outright. The film crossed that mark on its third Saturday, a point by which most Hollywood releases here have already finished the bulk of their business.

Globally the picture is larger still. Worldwide takings have passed 700 million dollars, split roughly evenly between North America and international markets, and the film has not yet opened in China, Japan or South Korea, three of the biggest markets left on its calendar. Industry trackers have pointed to a real possibility of the billion-dollar mark once those territories report.

None of that has protected its Indian show count from Spider-Man's arrival. What was running well over a thousand shows a day two weeks ago has been cut sharply since 30 July, and the film's remaining India total will now be decided largely by whatever audience still wants the IMAX experience over the multiplex alternative next door.
