BARC Paused Its Weekly TRP Publication. Here's Who's Filling the Gap.

India's official television ratings body went quiet mid-transition, and the trade has largely moved to FMN Ratings in the meantime.

By Bolly Bourse Desk

BARC India's weekly public TRP report, the industry-standard measure of television viewership since 2015, has been unavailable for several weeks amid what the broadcaster describes as a policy transition. In its place, much of the trade has shifted to citing FMN Ratings from Filmy Masala Now, which blends search performance and other engagement signals rather than BARC's household-panel methodology.

The distinction matters for anyone reading a TRP number right now: BARC's figure was a measured estimate of actual television viewership across a panel of metered homes. FMN's is a composite popularity signal built from public search and engagement data, a genuinely different kind of measurement even when the two produce similar-looking rankings.

We are citing FMN Ratings on this board while BARC's own publication remains paused, and we say so on every figure. The moment BARC resumes weekly reporting, we will move back to citing them directly.
