There is a reason the phrase airport look entered the Indian fashion vocabulary at all, and most of the credit belongs to Kareena Kapoor Khan. Long before every debutante had a paparazzo waiting at Terminal 2, she turned the walk from car to gate into a styled event.

The formula has barely changed in fifteen years: oversized sunglasses, monochrome tailoring or an exaggerated silhouette, minimal jewellery, and an expression that suggests she has not noticed the cameras. Younger stars have adopted every element of it.

The commercial logic is the interesting part. Airport photographs cost nothing to produce, get published within the hour, and keep a star visible between releases. For an actor with a slate that no longer requires constant film promotion, it is the most efficient marketing that exists.
