Toxic Opens to 101 Crore Net, the Biggest Hindi-Market Day for a South Film in History

Toxic closed its first day with roughly 101 crore net in India, a number that turns what looked like a strong advance-booking story into a genuinely historic one. The Hindi version alone accounted for about 55 crore of that, the biggest single-day Hindi total any original South Indian film has ever posted, ahead of the equivalent opening numbers for Animal, Stree 2 and Pathaan.

The worldwide total reached roughly 140 crore gross once overseas collections were added in, with the film taking over nearly every IMAX screen in the country on release day, a move that ended The Odyssey's 40-day run in those same theatres. None of this fully squares with how the film was received: reviews leaned distinctly mixed, with recurring criticism that the writing didn't match the visual scale, and that a film clearly built in conversation with KGF doesn't come out ahead of it.

That gap between the number and the notices is the actual story here. Advance-heavy openings on star power alone can produce a big single day regardless of what critics think, and Toxic did exactly that. Where this settles now depends on whether word of mouth can sustain a number this large through the week, or whether the day one figure turns out to be the peak rather than the floor.
