Spider-Man: Brand New Day has done something no Hollywood release has managed before at the Indian box office: crossed 450 crore net. The film closed its eighteenth day at 452.50 crore, helped by a 5.20 crore Independence Day bump that reversed what had been a quiet start to its third week.
The milestone arrives despite real headwinds. The film lost close to 8,900 shows on its third Friday alone as Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947 opened and began claiming screens, and the day-to-day trend has clearly slowed from the record-breaking pace of its first two weeks. Whether it can still reach 500 crore, which looked well within reach a week ago, now looks like a considerably tighter chase.
The milestone arrives despite real headwinds.
Records aside, the number says something simple about where Hollywood now sits in the Indian market. No non-Indian film, not Avengers: Endgame, not any Avatar sequel, has cleared this line before. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has, in eighteen days, with its third week still not finished.
