Ranveer Singh Was Spotted at Hansal Mehta's Office, and Now We Know Why: Pralay

Ranveer Singh was photographed hiding his face after being mobbed by paparazzi outside Hansal Mehta's office, and the visit has an answer: he leads Pralay, a post-apocalyptic zombie survival thriller from Mehta's new production banner, True Story Films.

The film is directed by Jai Mehta, Hansal Mehta's son, and co-produced with Ranveer's own Maa Kasam Films, on a reported budget near 300 crore that would make it the most expensive standalone film of Singh's career. Kalyani Priyadarshan, fresh off the Malayalam blockbuster Lokah: Chapter 1, joins as the female lead in what would be her Bollywood debut, with the shoot planned in Australia later this year.

It sits inside a genuinely ambitious slate from True Story Films, which also includes Porbandar, a large-scale action film Hansal Mehta will direct himself, and Kehar Singh from director Ajitpal Singh. For a company built on Scam 1992 and Faraaz-style prestige drama, a zombie survival thriller with a Bollywood A-lister is a real swing in a different direction.

For Ranveer, whose recent slate has run through Aditya Dhar's ensemble drama and Don 3, a genre film this specific is its own kind of bet: either it becomes the first Indian zombie tentpole with real scale, or it becomes the cautionary tale about why nobody tried before.
