Ramayana's Trailer Lands Tonight: What the Trade Is Actually Watching For

At 3:15 am IST, four minutes and fifteen seconds go live from Ballroom 20. Here is the checklist the industry will judge it against.

The first full trailer of Ramayana premieres from San Diego Comic-Con at 3:15 am IST, which is Thursday afternoon in California and Friday morning in India. It runs four minutes and fifteen seconds and carries a U certificate from the CBFC.

The trade is not watching for spectacle. Everyone already assumes the money is on the screen, given a reported outlay approaching ₹900 crore, DNEG on visual effects and a score built by A.R. Rahman with Hans Zimmer. What the industry will actually be reading is tone: whether the film plays as devotional epic or as global fantasy franchise, because those two registers sell to very different audiences and cannot both be the primary pitch.

The second question is Ravana. Yash's casting is the single most commercially loaded decision in the project, and how much of him the trailer reveals will signal whether Part One treats him as the looming threat held back for Part Two, or as its co-lead from the first frame.

The third is the release date itself. Reports suggest the makers have weighed moving Part One a week ahead of Diwali rather than opening on the festival. A trailer that lands hard makes the earlier date safer; a muted response makes the festival cushion look necessary.
