The Odyssey Closes Its Weekend at ₹61.3 Crore, Nolan's Biggest in India

The Odyssey has finished its opening weekend in India at ₹61.3 crore net, the biggest Christopher Nolan opening this market has recorded. The film took ₹17.4 crore on Friday, grew to ₹22 crore on Saturday and held at ₹21.9 crore on Sunday across 8,791 shows.

The language split is the striking part. The original English version contributed ₹48.5 crore of the weekend, with Hindi at ₹7.25 crore, Telugu at ₹3.4 crore and Tamil at ₹2.15 crore. Indian audiences chose to watch Nolan in English by a margin of nearly four to one, a pattern that has strengthened with every one of his releases here.

Day one alone sold over 6.1 lakh tickets, ahead of Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning's opening, and comfortably past Oppenheimer's ₹14.5 crore start. PVR, INOX and Cinepolis contributed roughly ₹9.5 crore gross from 1.64 lakh tickets on Friday, at an average occupancy above 20 percent.

Globally the film opened to about $264 million. In India the weekdays now decide its final shape, with clear air until Spider-Man: Brand New Day lists on 31 July.
