Mirzapur: The Movie opened with 24.75 crore net on its first day, Friday, September 4, across more than 11,000 shows nationwide, according to Sacnilk, one of the biggest openings of the year for a film without a single traditional solo lead star. Trade trackers moved quickly to declare it a Hit within a day of release, placing it alongside 2026's other early winners, a list that already includes Border 2, Bhooth Bangla, Dhamaal 4, Awarapan 2 and Hanuman Ansh.
With the opening day falling on a holiday, some drop was expected once the weekday-style rhythm of a regular Saturday kicked in. Instead, advance bookings for the second day came in on par with opening day itself, a signal the film is holding rather than fading. That advance strength has trade analysts projecting an opening weekend well above 75 crore net, with some estimates reaching 80 crore or higher, which would rank among Bollywood's strongest opening weekends of 2026.

The film marks Mirzapur's jump from streaming to the big screen, bringing back Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma and much of the original cast for a story that escalates the fight for control of the city's underworld. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, it leans on one of Indian streaming's most durable fandoms, and the opening suggests that loyalty is translating directly into ticket sales, particularly in the tier-2 and tier-3 markets where the show built its following over three seasons.
The release lands in one of the more crowded weekends of the year, arriving alongside Tamil horror-thriller Immortal and Dulquer Salmaan's I'm Game, while Yash's Toxic, Hanuman Ansh and Awarapan 2 continue their own theatrical runs in parallel. Screens are being split across all of them, but Mirzapur's numbers so far suggest it is drawing an audience distinct from the other releases rather than competing head-on for the same shows, a pattern trade watchers will be tracking closely as the weekend numbers settle.
