Kartik Aaryan's Captain India Finally Goes on Floors in London September 1, Five Years After First Being Announced

Captain India begins principal photography in London on September 1, with the shoot expected to wrap by the end of October. The action drama is directed by Shimit Amin, best known for Chak De! India, and produced by T-Series' Bhushan Kumar and Baweja Studios alongside Dopamine Studios, with S.B. Films handling production. The screenplay comes from Nash Vazifdar, Sanchit Gupta and Priyadarshee Shrivastava, and the film draws on a real evacuation of Indian citizens from a war-torn country. The makers have set an August 13, 2027 release, timed to the Independence Day weekend.

This isn't the film's first attempt at getting made. Captain India was originally announced back in 2021 with Hansal Mehta attached to direct for RSVP's Ronnie Screwvala and Baweja Studios' Harman Baweja, who also wrote that earlier script, with Kartik Aaryan set to play a pilot involved in the rescue. Principal photography was expected to start in early 2022 and never did. Five years and a full creative overhaul later, the project is finally moving, now with Amin directing and a new writing team.

This isn't the film's first attempt at getting made.

The announcement lands just after Aaryan shared his first update following knee surgery, sustained while filming an action sequence on Kabir Khan's upcoming sports drama. His team says he's recovering at home and expected back on set soon, ahead of Captain India's own London shoot.
