Jana Nayagan's Producer Blames the A Certificate as the Film Records Its Weakest Day

Jana Nayagan collected 3.55 crore net on its second Friday, a 12.3 percent drop and the weakest single day of its run, taking the India total to 157.10 crore net on a gross of 183.45 crore. Worldwide the film stands at 268.45 crore, with 85 crore from overseas.

Producer Venkat K. Narayanan has pointed to the film's A certificate as a factor in the second-week slowdown, telling Galatta Plus that the classification limited who could buy a ticket. For a Vijay release, where family and younger audiences have historically driven the long weekday tail, that is a specific and plausible complaint rather than a general one: the certificate arrived after a prolonged fight with the CBFC that had already pushed the release from January to July.

The film is running 4,165 shows with Tamil occupancy at 24.96 percent, rising to 35.54 percent at night. It also faced a separate setback in Karnataka, where theatres stopped screening it amid an ongoing row. The second weekend now has to do the work the weekdays did not.
