DC Is Doing Better in Kerala Than in Its Own Tamil Nadu Backyard

DC has crossed 52 crore net in India, a respectable number on its own. What's caught the trade's attention isn't the total, though, it's where the money is actually coming from. Through its first week and a half, Kerala has consistently out-grossed Tamil Nadu on a day-by-day basis, a reversal that's rare for a Tamil-origin release with a director as recognisable as Lokesh Kanagaraj behind it.

The gap isn't marginal either. On a recent midweek day, Kerala brought in roughly 1.94 crore gross against Tamil Nadu's 1.60 crore, with Andhra Pradesh and Telangana close behind at 1.40 crore. That's three non-home markets collectively outperforming the film's own state, a pattern usually reserved for pan-India blockbusters, not a director's acting debut still finding its footing commercially.

The gap isn't marginal either.

Kanagaraj's pull in Kerala isn't new, his directorial work has traveled well there before, but seeing it hold up this consistently for a film where he's in front of the camera instead of behind it says something about how far that audience loyalty now extends. Whether Tamil Nadu catches up over the coming weekend, or Kerala simply keeps carrying the film, is worth watching as the run continues.
