Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened in India on 30 July to 60.60 crore net across 17,250 shows, the largest single day any non-Indian film has recorded in this market. For Holland, it is the clearest evidence yet that his run as Peter Parker travels further in India than any other Hollywood franchise lead currently working.

The pre-release signal was already unusual: more than two million tickets sold on BookMyShow before the first show, a threshold no Hollywood title had previously crossed here. Night shows ran above 65 percent occupancy on opening day.

Holland appears in two films on the Indian board simultaneously this week, with a supporting role in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey still playing in its third week, though Spider-Man's arrival is precisely what cut The Odyssey's screens back.
